Soil Moisture Sensors
Low soil moisture levels can negatively impact photosynthesis. Extended periods of water scarcity may cause crops to wither and eventually die due to the limited availability of water and air in soil pores. In dry conditions, the cohesive forces created by soil compaction can place stress on plant roots, causing them to break and leading to plant death. On the other hand, excessive moisture decreases the air content in the soil, hindering root respiration. This can result in root rot and, in severe cases, plant death.
Soil moisture sensors can be used to monitor moisture levels in the soil. By analyzing the data, farmers can make timely decisions about irrigation, ensuring optimal moisture conditions for crop growth.
